One of the things that can make or break a racing-sim gaming experience is the feel of the racing wheel controller being used. Lower-end models will have a bungee system for creating wheel resistance, while higher end models will feature a force feedback system. The difference is night and day.

Older systems, like bungee and springs, are meant to only add cursory levels of resistance to the wheel. Force feedback systems use electronic motors to translate motion, vibrations, bumps in the road, and other features from the game into the wheel itself for a more realistic and responsive gaming experience.

Thrustmaster is a racing wheel company known for having a powerful and responsive force feedback system for their racing wheels. One of their most well-known models is the

Thrustmaster VG TX Racing Wheel. It comes in a standard edition and a premium TX Leather edition. The Leather edition has the added bonus of including the T3PA 3-pedal pedal set. For this review, we are reviewing the TX Leather edition.

Features

  • TM Leather 28 GT 11″ detachable leather wheel
  • TX Servo Base
  • T3PA 3-pedal pedal set
  • 900° Force Feedback

Good

-TM Leather 28 GT 11” Wheel:  This edition features real hand-stitched leather, not just on the grips, but over the entire surface of the wheel. It is created with a mix of leather and metal which means all the vibrations generated from the force feedback system will transfer very well.

-Force feedback system: Thrustmaster has one the most realistic and responsive force feedback systems on the market. This feedback system features 270 to 900 Degrees of Rotation (DOR), along with H.E.A.R.T HallEffect AccuRate Technology for a smoother (frictionless) experience

-T3PA 3- pedal set Included: One of the drawbacks with the previous, non-leather edition, was the somewhat flimsy 2 pedal system that came included with it. This edition corrects that by featuring the much more solid (and all metal) T3PA 3-pedal pedal set.

Bad

-Firmware/Software updating issues: There have been some reported issues with updating the wheel’s firmware. Furthermore, the process of downloading the pc compatible drivers, can be somewhat time-consuming and confusing.

-Customer service and support:  Thrustmaster’s customer support can be pretty lacking in service. There have been reports of long response times, and there is no phone support available.

Thrustmaster VG TX Racing Wheel Leather Edition Review Conclusion

The leather edition of the Thrustmaster VG TX Racing Wheel, is definitely an upgrade over the regular edition. It basically combines 3 of Thrustmaster’s top rated products, the TM Leather 28 GT 11″ racing wheel, the TX Servo base, and the T3PA 3- pedal set, together in one package making for a good value at a reasonable price point.

The T3PA 3- pedal set, for example, is $99.99 just by itself. The Thrustmaster VG TX Racing Wheel Leather Edition is an easy way to get a solid racing wheel set up, without having to make additional add-on purchases.
