Now, this might sound scary, and it should. However, you don’t have to be afraid if you take proper precautions. In this article, we will now talk about the most common injuries that you can suffer from if you spend too much time sitting.
DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)
This is an issue that can often hit the legs of gamers, and others who sit for the most of their regular days. It is a state where blood doesn’t flow to your legs as much, due to major inactivity. If you feel pain, or if you notice that your legs are swollen, this might be the reason why. This can become a serious problem if you don’t do anything about it.
However, you don’t have to panic. The trick in dealing with this is quite simple, and all you have to do to prevent it is to take a short walk every few hours. That way, your legs will get their fair share of activity as well, and you will reduce the chance of this problem affecting your health.
Neck injuries are another common issue that gamers might face on regular basis. Similarly to DVT, your neck probably doesn’t get a lot of activity during hours and hours of sitting in front of the computer. It is almost constantly in the same position, which makes it go stiff. Eventually, you will start feeling pain, and stiffness will remain.
You can deal with this issue just as easily as you did with the previous one. In fact, you can take care of them both at the same time. The earlier mentioned walk will take care of your entire body, and make sure that the blood flows properly through each part. Additionally, you may want to include some light exercises. Back problems are something that every hardcore gamer can’t avoid unless they change their habits. We were all told to sit straight as kids, but that is not something that you can apply during hours of gaming every single day. Such bad posture leads to back pain, especially later in life, when you arrive at some older years, where even the healthiest people will start feeling different issues.
So, what can you do to prevent this problem?
Well, there are several methods, but some of them may be a bit difficult for some people. The first and easiest one may include more physical activity, like the previous solutions. Some stretching and light exercises before and after gaming will do your body a lot of good.
You can even try doing them during the gaming session, just for a couple of minutes. I would recommend trying to touch your toes while standing up and bending over, multiple times a day. Another good exercise is to hold a deep squat for a minute for a few times throughout the day. Additionally, you should take a few walks throughout the day to stretch out muscles and your hips. Next solutions are a bit trickier. You can try to train yourself to sit straight and have a good posture. This will require some serious dedication and effort, but it is possible. Back braces are also a possibility if you are willing to use them. Then, there are standing desks, which are probably the best solution. However, they are not for everyone.
Finally, you can try with special chairs, specially designed to combat this problem. The majority of gamers sit on chairs that are not meant to serve that purpose, and they are slowly destroying their back.
